Sheridan hails dominant Argyle

John Sheridan was full of praise for Plymouth Argyle as they extended their unbeaten League Two run to five with a 3-0 win over Cheltenham.

Top scorer Reuben Reid claimed his eighth goal of the season with a superb rising strike on 23 minutes after being teed up by right wing back Kelvin Mellor. Central defender Peter Hartley doubled Argyle's lead, heading home Andy Kellett's 45th-minute free-kick and Lewis Alessandra wrapped up the win in the 76th minute from close range. The result means the Pilgrims have now won their last four home league games without conceding. Sheridan said: "It is a great result which keeps us up there. That is what we have got to do: win our games, especially the home ones. "We scored three great goals. The disappointing thing is we probably should have had more. "In the last couple of games, we have got the first goal, press for the second, but don't get it. It makes life a bit easier when you get the second goal. "Cheltenham had one or two moments, and they have had some good results of late but full credit to our team in the way they went about the game. I would not say we made them look ordinary, but we dominated the game. "It's a massive game now at Burton next week. One or two results went our way today but obviously it is very tight. "We will just focus on ourselves and carry on what we are doing." Cheltenham boss Mark Yates said: "It was frustrating. We were after turning a good week into a really good week and it didn't quite happen for us today. Plymouth have got some very good footballers and they were better than us in every department today. "We made some basic mistakes, the timing of the second goal and the third one killed us off. We were probably just second best in every department. "The players know I am disappointed and they are disappointed, which is a good thing, but we get back on the training ground on Monday and we look towards York next weekend. "We could have been better all over the park. As a team we weren't as good as we have been of late and sometimes that happens. "We have to move on and say we were beaten by a better team on the day."
