Midfielder may be out for a month with ankle injury

Cheltenham Town midfielder David Bird is facing up to four weeks on the sidelines due to an ankle injury. Bird picked up the injury during Tuesday's 1-0 defeat at home by Hereford United and he was replaced at half-time by Marley Watkins. X-rays have shown the 25-year-old has not suffered any broken bones, but he has damaged ankle ligaments and is currently on crutches. His condition will be assessed later this week, but the long-serving midfielder may miss the next month for Cheltenham. "The X-rays showed no serious damage, which is very good news," the Robins' senior sports therapist Ian Weston told the club's official website. "At this early stage it is very difficult to say how long he will be out of action for, but early indications suggest it may be around three to four weeks. "However, we will know more once I have had a chance to re-assess the injury on Thursday."
