Robins secure Pipe

Image: Pipe: Important experience

Cheltenham Town have signed versatile Bristol Rovers midfielder David Pipe on loan until January.

Schofield also in talks with an experienced free agent

Cheltenham Town have signed versatile Bristol Rovers midfielder David Pipe on loan until January. The 26-year-old becomes the Robins' second signing of loan deadline day after Ashley Eastham arrived from Blackpool earlier on Thursday. Caretaker boss John Schofield hopes the ability of Pipe, who was suspended by Rovers in September after being arrested on suspicion of attacking a man, to play in a variety of positions will act as a welcome option. "David is a highly-experienced utility player who plays predominantly down the right-hand side," Schofield told Cheltenham's official website.

Good pedigree

"He is also versatile enough to play in the centre of midfield as well so he will be a valuable addition to the squad. "He has a good pedigree at both League One and League Two level having tasted promotion with Bristol Rovers. He will give us some important experience and further competition for places." Meanwhile, Schofield has revealed that Rovers are looking to sign an unnamed player who is currently without a club. "We're also talking to an experienced player who is not attached to a club at the moment," he said. "Because he is a free agent he is not bound by today's transfer deadline so we can sign him after today if an agreement can be reached."
