Brighton are in talks with Ipswich Town with a view to extending the loan spell of Matt Richards for another month.
Left-back Richards appears to be surplus to requirements at Portman Road and has helped the Seagulls to four consecutive clean sheets in League One.
The initial deal ends after Saturday's match against Leeds but Brighton boss Dean Wilkins is confident he will have the player for a second month.
Wilkins said: "The plan is to keep Matt for another month. That's in discussion at the moment and I'm sure that will be finalised soon.
"He's slowly but surely started to gain in confidence and started to produce the type of football he's capable of.
"Nobody plays the amount of games he's played at a Championship club without being a good player.
"Maybe his confidence has been shot a bit over the last 18 months but he's improving with every game."
