Damian Spencer has signed a new two-year contract with Cheltenham Town. The Robins striker had offers from other clubs but opted to stay at Whaddon Road.

Last season Spencer managed three goals in 24 starts, leaving him open to criticism from fans but Cheltenham boss John Ward was keen to point out Spencer's strengths.

Talking to the Gloucestershire Echo, Ward said: "I know exactly what I am going to get off Damian Spencer, he is only 25 and I want to keep players that are reliable people.

"People can say what they like about Damian as a footballer, but what nobody can deny is that when he puts the shirt on he gives it everything he has got.

"I can't see why there is concern about the offer. I think people would have been more concerned if he had left."

Spencer joins Gavin Caines, Adam Connolly, David Bird, Jerry Gill, Will Puddy and Craig Reid in signing new deals with the club.
