Cheltenham Town goalkeeper Shane Higgs has signed a new three-year contract with the Gloucestershire-based club.

The 29-year-old will remain at Whaddon Road until the summer of 2009 after establishing himself as Cheltenham number one.

Robins boss John Ward was delighted to secure the services of the former Bristol Rovers and Worcester City custodian, claiming he has one of the best shot-stoppers in The Football League.

"I believe that Shane is one of the best goalkeepers around and he has already more than shown his worth in League One this season," Ward told the club's official website.

"We've got a very good goalkeeper in his prime playing for us over the next three years.

"We've had no interest from clubs in higher divisions, which really surprises me.

"I still think people see Cheltenham as an unfashionable club, although that is to our advantage in this case.

"Having said that, I know that Shane is very happy here and that he will always give his best for the club."
