Cheltenham midfielder John Finnigan has handed the club a boost by signing a new two-year deal.
The club's 29-year-old captain has proven a firm favourite with the Whaddon Road faithful since joining the Robins in 2002 from Lincoln.
Robins boss John Ward has spoken of his relief that he has secured the services of Finnigan until 2008, who he regards as one of his key players.
''John is captain of the club, not just of the team, and he leads by example in the way he does things," Ward told the club's official website.
"Because of that he's a very important person to have around. Everybody sees his qualities on the pitch as well and I think it's important for Cheltenham Town football club that we're doing our very best to keep our better players.
''It augurs well for the future and it's good for the other players as well to see that we are trying very hard. I'm getting good support from the chairman and the board of directors so I'm very pleased that we're looking that way.''
