Republic of Ireland boss Martin O’Neill has called Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter into his squad for the European Qualifier against Poland on March 29.

The 25-year-old was included among an initial 35-man party, which will be reduced before the players meet up seven days ahead of the match at the Aviva Stadium.

O'Neill has also named defender Paul McShane following his return to action with Hull City, but there is no place for Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney.

Of Arter, who has represented his country at U17 amd U19 level, O'Neill said: "He is having a very good season. I think, yeah, why not? It would be nice to have a look at him.

"He's obviously played at under-age level and I wanted to introduce another fresh face. There are no guarantees of anything. I've met him twice now and I think he deserves that chance.

"This might be a surprise to him as I didn't say anything to him. He will hopefully be pleasantly surprised."
