Wilson accepts fans' reasons

Callum Wilson understands the reasons why so many Coventry supporters opted not to make the 68-mile round trip to Northampton.

Less than 1,000 Sky Blues fans were in the stands amid a crowd of 2,204 for Sunday's thrilling 5-4 victory over Bristol City at Sixfields, with the Robins faithful outnumbering those supporting Steven Pressley's side. Coventry's groundshare with Northampton has been met with anger and protest from fans, who voted firmly with their feet. But local lad Wilson - who bagged a brace in the entertaining victory - stressed his gratitude to those who did attend and hopes City will be able to attract a greater number down the M1. "It is disappointing as we would like to be playing in front of more people but we're really happy for the fans who did come to the game," the 21-year-old told the club's official website. "They probably got value for money and we really appreciate their support. With the fans who stayed away, I understand where they are coming from. "Hopefully we'll see a few more come down and soon get a stadium built where they can come and watch us play at home, in Coventry." Coventry averaged attendances of just under 11,000 at the Ricoh Arena last season. But the vast number of those fans have vowed not to travel to Sixfields, where the club will groundshare with Northampton for the next three years while their new stadium is being built. The move comes after a lengthy and bitter rent row with Ricoh Arena management company Arena Coventry Limited (ACL).
