Barker rubbishes Symes talk

Manager Richie Barker has moved to quell speculation that Bury are poised to sign Bournemouth striker Michael Symes.

The 28-year-old is thought to be surplus to requirements at Dean Court having concluded last season on loan with Rochdale. The Shakers are in the market for a new forward after Mike Grella rejected a new contract at Gigg Lane, but Barker insists no talks have taken place with Symes. He told the Bury Times: "He is certainly one that we are aware of, but I haven't spoken to him. "Michael fits the bill in the sense that he is available and has a base up here in the north west, but our interest at this stage hasn't gone any further than that." On Grella, Barker added: "We offered him a contract that didn't meet his wage demands. If he wants to lower those demands then we would be happy to talk to Mike again."
