Powell happy to take ugly win

Charlton boss Chris Powell admits the Addicks may not have been pretty after being forced to work hard for a 2-1 win over MK Dons.

The League One leaders were gifted a penalty in the 43rd minute when Dons defender Gary MacKenzie pushed his head towards Yann Kermorgant inside the area. MacKenzie was handed a straight red card and Addicks skipper Johnnie Jackson converted his first spot-kick, before winning and converting a second in first-half stoppage time after he had been tripped by Luke Chadwick. But despite their numerical disadvantage it was MK Dons who were the better side after the break - although they only had Dean Bowditch's late consolation to show for their efforts. Powell said: "If ever there was a case for winning ugly I think that was it because our first half was decent. "Obviously we got the two penalties and there was the sending-off, but our second half wasn't good enough. I suppose what we did in the first period will warrant us the three points."
