Crewe boss Dario Gradi has revealed he turned down the chance to sign defender Stephane Zubar due to his wage demands.

The 24-year-old Guadeloupe international, brother of Wolves defender Ronald, was released by fellow League Two team Plymouth Argyle due to the club's financial situation. But Gradi explained he had to end his pursuit of Zubar, telling The Sentinel: "We did make contact with him, but he wanted higher wages than we were prepared to pay."
