Bournemouth are mulling over an offer from Peterborough United for influential centre-back Jason Pearce.
Posh are keen to strengthen their ranks as they prepare for life in the Championship next season and manager Darren Ferguson has identified Pearce, 23, as a player to do just that.
And Peterborough director of football Barry Fry is quietly confident about the chances of striking a deal.
He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've made an enquiry and a bid for him, we're waiting to hear. That is a player the manager likes but we haven't had a 'yes' or a 'no' yet.
"I've had good talks with the people concerned at Bournemouth, I think we're close to agreeing a thing but until the paperwork's done all things can happen."
Pearce joined the Cherries in 2007 and was the only player to start all 46 league games last season, taking his tally for the club to over 180 appearances.
