Bournemouth midfielder Shaun Cooper has been dealt a cruel blow with the news that he will be out for six months following surgery.
The 25-year-old underwent an operation on his hip at the end of the last campaign and will have to wait until the end of the year for a return to the first team.
Cooper agreed a one-year contract extension earlier this month, having made 39 appearances for the Cherries last term as the club narrowly avoided relegation due to a 17-point deduction for failing to comply with insolvency rules.
The midfielder was a huge part of their survival campaign and Bournemouth assistant manager Jason Tindall admits his absence will be a massive miss.
"It's a blow because Shaun is a big player for us. He's got to take time to get himself right," said Tindall.
Bournemouth start their 2009/10 League Two campaign with a difficult away trip to Bury on 8th August.
