Bournemouth defender Joel Ward is facing up to eight weeks on the sidelines with an ankle problem.
The on-loan Portsmouth full-back had to be carried off on a stretcher during last weekend's 1-0 win over Shrewsbury.
He lasted just 16 minutes of that contest, with it immediately clear that he had done some serious damage.
Scans have now revealed the full extent of the problem, with an ankle ligament injury set to keep him out of action until mid-April.
"It has been revealed that Joel Ward sustained ankle ligament damage after an awkward landing in the match against Shrewsbury," read a statement on the Cherries' official website.
"The right-back was carried off early on and had a scan on Monday to reveal the extent of the damage.
"He is expected to be out for around eight weeks."
