Gowling out for the season

Bournemouth's Josh Gowling is likely to miss the rest of the season with a cruciate knee injury.

Bournemouth's promotion push has been dealt a blow with the news that Josh Gowling is likely to miss the rest of the season with a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The 21-year-old, signed from Danish side Herfolge in the summer, was stretchered off during The Cherries' impressive 2-0 win at Brentford at the weekend and the extent of the injury has now been confirmed.

"It's a relatively common injury in football and accounts for most serious knee injuries," explained Bournemouth physio Jim Marshall.

"There's a long rehabilitation time but they are largely successful operations and there are no complications with Josh."

Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll also expressed his disappointment for the player but believes he has the character to bounce back.

"Josh is understandably disappointed as we all are because after impressing in pre-season he has gone from strength to strength.

"Despite this setback, we still see Josh as a player for the future and no doubt he'll come back fitter and stronger."
