Bournemouth captain Steve Fletcher will be out for up to six weeks after undergoing an operation to solve a long-running knee injury.

The 32-year-old was unable to play in last Saturday's 2-2 home draw with Bristol City and has been hampered with the problem in his left knee during pre-season.

The loss of the former Hartlepool United hit-man will come as a blow to Cherries manager Sean O'Driscoll after just three matches of the new League One season.

"Steve has been struggling since half way through pre-season with the injury and an exploratory knee operation was carried out to tidy up the left knee," Bournemouth physio Jim Marshall told the club's official website.
