Bournemouth defender Stephen Purches is hoping he will be out of action no longer than a few weeks after undergoing an ankle operation.

The 24-year-old was struggling with the knock at the back end of last season, however the summer break allowed him to return at 100 percent.

But the injury resurfaced in a pre-season clash at Weymouth and he has now undergone a minor operation that is expected to keep him out for two to three weeks.

"The ankle hasn't been 100 percent right since the Hartlepool game towards the end of last season," explained Purches to the Daily Echo.

"I was getting fit for games and just getting through them really.

"I was told to rest it over the summer and for the first week back it felt really good. But I felt a twinge in it during the game at Weymouth and it had blown up a bit by Sunday.

"Now I'm waiting for the verdict from the specialist. As far as I know it is just an operation to clear it up.

"Hopefully, I will only be out for two to three weeks and it should put it right."
