Dean Cox: Hoping his goal will be among the contenders for goal of the season
Dean Cox hopes his wonder goal against Walsall will make it second time lucky for him to win goal of the season.
The Leyton Orient midfielder netted a stunning goal from inside his own half in Tuesday's win over the Saddlers to register an early contender for goal of the season.
Cox has an eye for the spectacular after finishing second in the Mitre Goal of the Year award in 2011 for an effort he scored against Huddersfield in 2010 and the 25-year-old admits it will be hard to top his strike against Walsall.
"It was great to see the ball go in and it was something that I just tried and luckily for me it flew into the top corner," Cox told skysports.com.
"I just didn't know what to when it went it. I just ran around and slid on my knees going mad really.
"I am hoping it will be there or thereabouts for goal of the season this time as I finished second in 2011 with a goal I scored against Huddersfield."
Off the mark
The effort against Walsall was Cox's first goal of the season and the winger hopes it is the first of many to come.
"It is a great goal to get off the mark with and it is one that will not be forgotten," added Cox.
"The lads have been giving me a bit stick for not scoring saying it was about time I scored and hopefully I can get a few more goals even though that one should count for 10!"
Orient play host to Sheffield United this weekend and Cox is expecting a tough game against the promotion favourites.
"It is going to be a difficult game against Sheffield United, but we are at home and we will be looking to get a positive result," said Cox.
"They have got a good squad and they are one of the sides who will be looking to win promotion so it is going to be a hard game, but we are confident after getting back to winning ways at Walsall."
