Stimson aims to keep Royce and Nutter

Gillingham have announced the release of seven players but are keen to secure the futures of Simon Royce and John Nutter. Goalkeeper Royce kept a clean sheet in the successful League Two play-off final against Shrewsbury on Saturday and has now been offered a new one-year deal. Left-back Nutter has also been offered a fresh 12-month deal after starring for the Gills throughout their promotion-winning campaign. Mark Stimson hopes to speak with striker Andy Barcham in the near future and would also like to retain young forward Andy Pugh. However, Stimson has decided to let several players go ahead of the 2009/10 League One season. Long-serving midfielders Nicky Southall and Andrew Crofts are among those to be released, along with striker Gary Mulligan. Full-back Sean Clohessy has also been told he is surplus to requirements after four seasons at Priestfield. First year professionals Chris Kiely, Tayler Thomas and Charlie Howard are the other three players not to be retained.
