Newey moves back to U's

Cambridge United have sealed a loan move for Leyton Orient's Tom Newey.

Cambridge United have sealed a loan move for Leyton Orient's Tom Newey.

The former Leeds United man spent time at The Abbey Stadium in 2003 and impressed with a series of solid displays.

Newey is currently out of favour at Orient and could now be in the United squad to face Yeovil Town on Saturday, if discussions progress as expected.

Cambridge boss Steve Thompson has spoken of his intention to bring the player to the club as an immediate priority.

"Tom Newey is left-footed, technically he's very good, he gets up and down the pitch, he's experienced at this level, and in our position we've got to get lads with the right attitude," he said.

"We've got to win the battle before we can start winning the war, so they've got to be the right temperament and the right ilk."

One player out on loan from Cambridge is goalkeeper Shaun Marshall, as he has joined Conference club Stevenage Borough.
