Mauricio Pochettino insists he will continue with his rotation policy at Tottenham

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insists he will continue with his rotation policy ahead of Sunday's Premier League trip to Aston Villa.

And it means Spurs' top-scorer Harry Kane is by no means assured of a start despite scoring his seventh goal of the season in the 2-0 Capital One Cup win over Brighton.

Kane has scored all his goals in cup competitions but is yet to make the first eleven in a league match despite Spurs winning just once in their last seven Premier League games.

Pochettino insists he will assess all the players ahead of trip to Villa Park, which is live on Sky Sports 1HD, but suggested Kane will have to continue sharing playing time with the club's other strikers.

“The Premier League, Europa League and Capital One Cup are all different competitions but afterwards we always analyse each player for the next game,” he said.

“I could think only that I need to pick Harry for the next game but he shares the minutes with the other strikers, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, and all the players have the opportunity to play.

“We always put the strongest side out that we can. We have a strong squad. Soldado, Kane and Adebayor are all different players and we are in more than one competition.

“After we go to Aston Villa we go to Asteras in Greece, so when you play in all these competitions you need all the players.”

Erik Lamela came off the bench to score his third goal in three games before Kane's second ensured Tottenham's place in the quarter-finals against Newcastle, whom they lost 2-1 at home to on Sunday.

And Pochettino believes they have a realistic chance of winning the Capital One Cup with just two more victories needed to clinch a trip to Wembley.

“The quarter-final was our objective and we are happy to be there because it is a realistic chance of a trophy,” he said.

“I am happy for the players because we needed to feel victory again after Sunday. All the players played well.”
