Club making progress, says Brighton chief executive

Brighton's ambitious plans to expand the American Express Community Stadium have been given the green light. The Championship club have been granted permission to add an extra 8,250 seats to the ground, increasing its total capacity to more than 30,000. The decision was taken by Brighton and Hove City Council's planning committee on Wednesday afternoon. Brighton's chief executive, Martin Perry, launched an impassioned argument for the stadium improvements to a cross-party committee of councillors. "We have put pride back into the city, we have put a spring in the step of the city," said Perry. "This takes the club forward and we urge you to approve it." The South Coast club moved to their new £93million home at Falmer at the beginning of the season in time for the club's return to the Championship following promotion from League One. Prior to moving into the new stadium, the Seagulls had been without a home since leaving the Goldstone Ground in 1997.
