Injury-hit stopper pens new one-year deal with Brighton

Brighton defender Tommy Elphick has penned a one-year contract extension despite spending the whole of the current campaign out with injury. Elphick, 24, has made over 150 appearances for the Seagulls and is on course to be fit for pre-season training following an Achilles problem. Albion manager Gus Poyet told the club's official website: "Tommy has had a very hard time with the injury but has shown great determination and is well on his way to a full recovery. "With such intense competition for places throughout the squad, including the central defensive positions, that will be tough, but knowing Tommy he will be up for the challenge."
