Defender snubs Saints to stay at Withdean Stadium

Inigo Calderon has snubbed a proposed move to Southampton and has agreed a new three-year deal with Brighton. The Spanish right-back was thought to be on the verge of signing for Southampton after the Seagulls withdrew their original contract offer when the deadline they had set the player expired. At the time Calderon wanted more time in order to speak to the Saints but now he has decided his future lies at the Withdean. The 28-year-old, who joined Albion on a free transfer in January after he left Alaves, made 19 appearances last season, scoring once.
