Gillingham's Andrew Crofts has joined Peterborough on loan with a view to a permanent move

Midfielder joins League One outfit on-loan until end of January

Gillingham midfielder Andrew Crofts has joined Peterborough on loan until the end of January with a view to a permanent move. Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson has been tracking the 24-year-old - who came up through Gillingham's youth system - for some time. He is the League Two side's most capped player and was appointed their captain last season but has made only seven starts for the Gills this term. Following his signing, the Welsh international played in Posh's goalless reserve team fixture with Wycombe Wanderers on Wednesday afternoon.

Good acquisition

Ferguson told the club's official website: "He is a player I have looked at for a while and I believe he is a good acquisition. "He is a full international with Wales and was Gillingham's best player last year, winning all the awards and I don't really know what has happened this season, but it is to our advantage. "He is something a bit different, he has good energies, is very good in the air and gets around the pitch. "He is a good all-round midfielder and gives us good cover because I have to be very careful with Paul Coutts. He has come from non-league and I need to keep him fresh.
Never know
"Dean Keates has just come back from injury and will need a break soon and you never know with Charlie (Lee). "It gives us good options and it is something different in the mix. He is a good signing."
