Brighton captain Dean Hammond is set to miss the rest of the season as he requires a hernia operation.
Hammond suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury in training earlier this week and the club have decided to send him under the knife.
The 24-year-old is now expected to miss the rest of the campaign Brighton boss Dean Wilkins believes the club had no choice but to send him in for an operation.
"Dean Hammond was going to be a part of the plan for this weekend, because the hamstring showed no sign of a tear and he trained earlier in the week," Wilkins told the club's official website.
"But he has trained today and pulled up again. With that in mind we going to try and get the operation done on his hernia as quick as we can."
