El-Abd on the sidelines

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Adam El-Abd is facing a spell on the sidelines with a calf injury.

The former Seagulls trainee needed to be stretchered off and hospital treatment after suffering a deep gash in his calf during Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at League One rivals Millwall.

The 22-year-old is likely to be out for around three weeks with the leg injury.

"I went to block a shot and (Millwall's) Gavin Grant came down on it," El-Abd told Brighton's official website.

"It was nothing malicious. It was an innocuous challenge.

"As I stood up, I noticed my calf was streaming with blood. I grabbed it to stop it bleeding and a big chunk of flesh came away.

"Last night, I had a local anesthetic and had the wound cleaned out and stitched.

"Luckily it's a clean cut. They've left the exterior open, but it looks a lot worse than it is and feels."
