Brighton & Hove Albion's early pre-season preparations have met with a setback after Chris McPhee fractured a bone in his foot.
The young striker suffered the injury in training and will now miss the start of the new Championship campaign.
McPhee would have been looking to press his claims for a starting role in Mark McGhee's side for the big kick-off in August.
But he now faces six weeks out of action with McGhee acknowledging it is a bitter pill for the 21-year-old to swallow.
"Chris McPhee has injured his metatarsal but that's on the back of this last five or six weeks when he has worked very hard to get himself fitter and stronger than he's ever been," McGhee told the club's official website.
"He's lost fat, put on muscle and is looking fantastic and unfortunately he's now got this small injury."
