Huddersfield manager Chris Powell insists Nahki Wells still has a future at the club after the striker broke his two-month goal drought with the winner in a 2-1 victory over Bolton.

The Bermuda international, without a goal in eight games, stepped off the bench to seal a precious come-from-behind win for struggling Town.

Wells had been pushed out of the starting line-up after the loan signing of Grant Holt, but Powell has no intention of letting the player go.

He said: "Nahki will get games and will score goals.

"He is an important player. He might not think that when he doesn't start but I know 100 per cent what he is capable of.

"We have to make sure we have the platform for him to play and score goals."

Holt's loan spell has now ended and he will return to Wigan, with Powell admitting he is short of strikers.

"We are light up front and we will be looking to strengthen in January," said the manager.

Huddersfield had conceded after just 41 seconds when Darren Pratley caught Town cold, firing home after a free-kick was only half cleared.

The hosts responded well to the early setback, though, and levelled in the 43rd minute when Jonathan Hogg set up Jacob Butterfield for a powerful shot into the bottom corner.

Wells then replaced Harry Bunn in the 76th minute and grabbed a dramatic winner five minutes from time. Hogg was the creator again putting Wells through to slot home his 10th goal of the season.

Powell was pleased with his side's display after two late goals pegged them back to 2-2 at Rotherham on Boxing Day.

"It was a good game and a good response, not just from the early setback of conceding a goal but after the game at Rotherham, which felt like a defeat in the dressing room," he said.

"To concede in the first minute meant it was going to be a mental as well as a physical test but we came through it.

"The turning point was a great save by Alex Smithies from Eidur Gudjohnsen. That really fired up the crowd and the players.

"Four points from six over Christmas is a good return."

Defeat ended Bolton's eight-match unbeaten run and boss Neil Lennon was left to rue what could have been, arguing that Emile Heskey should not have been ruled offside for a 'goal' that was disallowed and claiming there was an infringement by Hogg in the build-up to Town's second goal.

"We have been done by two refereeing decisions. Heskey was clearly on side - he was at least level with Jack Robinson - and the second goal was handball by Hogg," said Lennon.

"To be fair to Huddersfield they had a very good spell in the first half and really forced the game.

"At 1-1 I was quite happy at half-time. I thought we dominated for long periods in the second half and were good value for it.

"But at 1-1 you never know what might happen and they got the goal. The big decisions went against us today."
