Huddersfield man played with fractured bone in ankle

Huddersfield midfielder Scott Arfield could miss the start of the new season after it was discovered he has fractured a bone in his ankle. The 23-year-old Scot was injured in the first leg of the Terriers' play-off semi-final win against MK Dons in May, but only learned of the full extent of the problem after having a scan on Wednesday morning. Indeed, Arfield returned to the side for the final moments of Huddersfield's extra-time play-off final win over Sheffield United at Wembley - scoring in the penalty shoot-out. Arfield wrote on Twitter: "Had a ct scan this morning. Fractured a bone in my ankle so need to get this sorted ASAP. Happened at the mk 1st leg. Gutted but £suchaslife." Huddersfield paid Falkirk a fee understood to be in the region of £400,000 in the summer of 2010 for Arfield, who was a regular in the starting line-up last season, making 40 appearances and scoring two goals.
