Reds defender aware that contract talks will have to wait

Joel Lynch insists those waiting on the offer of a new contract at Nottingham Forest will continue to give their all to the collective cause. The Reds find themselves in financial limbo following the death of owner Nigel Doughty and are in no position to discuss extensions with any of those edging towards the end of their current deals. There are 17 players at the City Ground set to be out of contract or entering the final year of their deals come the summer, a situation manager Steve Cotterill has branded 'ludicrous'. There is little anyone can do until the situation off the field is resolved, though, with patience very much the order of the day.

Lynch appreciates that and insists he will do his utmost to help steer Forest clear of relegation trouble before addressing the issue of his future. "It would be easy to say the players are unhappy because they have not been offered contracts, but at the end of the day you have to earn a contract," said the defender, who will be out of contract at the end of the season. "I know my contract is up and it is my livelihood, but we all have to keep working until we earn that contract. There are bigger things at stake. "We're a bunch of lucky lads to be playing for a club as big as Forest."
