Huddersfield manager Lee Clark has confirmed Alex Smithies will undergo a second operation to cure his knee problem.

Smithies, 21, has been beset with the injury over recent weeks and he played no part in Saturday's opening-day draw with Bury. Clark told the club's official website: "He is still having problems with his knee. He is going to have an operation on his knee in the next week with the surgeon who did his first operation to see if he can solve the problem. "Alex needs to get his knee sorted; he has tried a lot recently to fix it with no avail. "The club has promised him that he will receive the best treatment possible to finally sort the issue. "I don't want to speculate how long Alex will be out for, I am not the specialist and I will leave his diagnosis down to the professionals."
