Portsmouth land Villa starlet

Portsmouth have won the battle to sign Aston Villa starlet Jonathan Hogg. The 22-year-old has been tracked by a host of Championship clubs, who were anxious to take him on loan until the end of the season. Leeds United and Middlesbrough were amongst the clubs also pushing to try and land Hogg. But now Pompey have managed to push through a loan deal and Hogg could be drafted straight into the squad to face Burnley on Tuesday. Hogg has only recently penned a long-term contract at Villa Park having impressed new boss Gerard Houllier. "Jonathan has competed very well in the games he has played this season and this loan move will greatly assist in his career development," said Houllier. Hogg made his Premier League debut against Manchester United earlier this season.
