Dundee United left-back Paul Dixon will not need surgery after suffering a knee injury against Hibernian.
The 22-year-old defender was stretchered off in the second half against Hibs on Saturday, and although he does not need to go under the knife, he still faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
"There's no cartilage damage which I suppose is a boost in some respects - because he won't need an operation," said United manager Craig Levein.
"But Dicker has a medial ligament grade two strain, which means he's out for anything between four and eight weeks - six weeks probably."
The Terrors are also expected to learn if midfielder Scott Robertson faces an operation on a groin injury.
"Scott is seeing the doctor on Thursday night," Levein added. "He feels it's the same thing as before but on the other side of the groin.
"If it is, then we'll try and get it done as quickly as possible and the best-case scenario would be him just being out for three or four weeks."
