Burnett upbeat despite defeat

Wayne Burnett remains confident Dagenham can stay up, despite slipping back into the drop zone after a 1-0 defeat to Northampton.

The impressive Ricky Holmes hit the only goal of the game in the second half at Sixfields to sink the Daggers, who have fallen back into the bottom two on goal difference. Burnett said: "I know we're back in the relegation zone but I've no doubt we will pick up the points we need to get out of it. We'll keep battling on, as we always do. "Northampton are a very good side, with the calibre of player they have it was always going to be difficult for us. We were under a bit of pressure early on although they didn't cause us too many problems as the game went on but at times we were our own worst enemy, especially for their goal. "We made the wrong decisions at crucial times and it was disappointing not to keep another clean sheet. But we haven't scored in the last four games, Jamie Cureton hasn't scored for five games, so it was always going to be difficult at a place like Northampton. "I played with three players in midfield to try and screen the defence because Northampton have some very good players like Marc Richards, John-Joe O'Toole and Ricky Holmes. They had better players on the pitch than we did tand that's why they won." Northampton made it back-back-back wins for the first time since September, following up their victory over Exeter. Cobblers boss Chris Wilder said: "I thought we were excellent from the time we stepped onto the pitch at 3pm to the time we stepped off it at 4.50pm. "The start gave us a really good lift and the supporters got right behind us. We have to excite them and hopefully everyone has enjoyed an entertaining afternoon. "If I'm being a little bit greedy I'll say that I wanted it to be a little bit more comfortable in terms of the scoreline, but everybody played their part in a very good win for us. "There is a lot of energy in the team, I enjoyed watching the team today and I'm sure the supporters did too. From my point of view it was important we concentrated defensively; we almost got done on one long ball in the first half and we needed to make sure that didn't happen. "Dagenham have beaten Bury so they are always difficult opponents but I thought we were excellent all over. "We passed the ball when we could pass it and we turned them down the sides when we had to. Everyone put a really good shift in and we kept our shape and were difficult to play through."
