Former Crewe defender weighing up his options
David Artell insists he has not held talks over a deal with Northampton Town as he weighs up his options following his departure from Crewe Alexandra.
The experienced centre-half was released by Crewe at the end of the season, despite playing an influential role in helping the club win promotion to League One via the play-offs.
The 31-year-old has been linked with a move to Aidy Boothroyd's Northampton, but Artell says there is no substance to the speculation.
"I haven't spoken to anyone from Northampton Town," Artell told the
Chronicle & Echo.
"I had a chat with Aidy Boothroyd after the second leg of the play-off semi-finals because he was covering the game for Sky but it was only for a minute and we certainly didn't discuss anyone's future.
"Nobody has contacted me and I wasn't even aware Northampton were in the market for a centre-back.
"I think it might be a case of someone putting two and two together and coming up with five-and-a-half."
He added: "One or two managers have already been in touch. But no terms have been discussed at this point, it's all enquiries.
"It's always a waiting game at this stage of the year and I'm waiting for the right offer. I want to be successful, I don't want to waste a season at a club that isn't ambitious. I want another promotion campaign."
