Northampton have signed former Aldershot defender Anthony Charles on a contract to the end of the season.

Aidy Boothroyd has been assessing Charles' fitness over the past month and has now decided to hand the experienced defender a deal after impressing during his spell. "Anthony has been training with us for about a month now," said Boothroyd. "He got injured towards the end of last season but his knees are now strong and he's looked in very good form." "He's done very well in the reserve games he's played. He can play at centre half or left-back, he's got a few strings to his bow and he was very well thought of at Aldershot." Charles played over 200 games for the Shots and was part of the team that won the Blue Square Premier title. He was captain of the side in the 2010 season when they surprisingly reached the play-offs and will be hoping to use his experience to help the Cobblers escape from their relegation battle.
