Northampton defender John Johnson insists he will still be a leader on the pitch despite being stripped of the armband.
The 23-year-old was Aidy Boothroyd's captain until the arrival of Clarke Carlisle on loan from Burnley last month.
"It's been a good thing for the club, Clarke has brought a lot to the team," Johnson told BBC Northampton.
"I was a bit fussed, but not too fussed. Everyone can talk and help people out, so everyone can play a part.
"The gaffer pulled me aside and told me the situation - Clarke has captained every club he's ever been at. I'm a young captain and I can learn from that.
"I didn't feel that the captaincy was a weight on my shoulders, it was an honour. I'll just concentrate on my game and the team game."
