Doig back with Cobblers

Image: Doig: On trial at Cobblers

Former Northampton defender Chris Doig is without a club but has another chance with the Cobblers, who have offered him a trial run.

Doig, who was part of the Town squad that won promotion from League Two under Colin Calderwood in 2006, played in a reserve-team game against Colchester this week. The Scottish centre-half is without a club after his month-to-month deal at Aldershot expired this month. Should Doig be signed by manager Aidy Boothroyd he will become the fourth former Cobbler to rejoin the club, following in the footsteps of Adebayo Akinfenwa, Ashley Westwood and Jason Crowe in returning to Sixfields after spells elsewhere.
