Torquay winger Ian Morris has been ruled out of action for "a couple of months" with a knee injury by boss Martin Ling.
Morris was taking part in a coaching course when his knee buckled during light running.
The club's physio then sent the wide man for a scan which revealed a piece of bone floating inside his kneecap.
"He will see a surgeon tomorrow [Friday] and it looks like he could be out for a couple of months," Ling told the club's official website.
"He's been a regular player in a squad that is doing okay and when you lose someone like Ian for a period of time, it stretches you a bit.
"The early prognosis is that he will be missing for months."
