Cobblers land Langmead on loan

Northampton have signed experienced defender Kelvin Langmead from Peterborough on a one-month loan.

Langmead started his career as a striker, but reverted to a centre-back during his six-year stint at Shrewsbury. He played over 200 times for the Shropshire club before Gary Johnson signed him for Peterborough last season. The 26-year-old has now followed Johnson to Sixfields and will hope to impress the manager enough to earn a permanent contract. "I took Kelvin to Peterborough and I know him well," said Johnson. "He was part of a successful squad there that won promotion last season. "He will give us some more experience in an important position and he will improve the squad. He lives locally, and we have taken him for a month initially and we will see where we go from there."
