Walsall have ended their pre-season preparations on relatively good note with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Port Vale.
League Two Vale went ahead in the eighth minute when Marc Richards slotted home a loose ball and boss Micky Adams would have been happy with his side's performance in the first half. But Walsall were level after the break when John McCombe sliced into his own net in the 60th minute and that is how it ended, with both sides making a host of changes.
