Keeper competition at Dean Court

Bournemouth's Shwan Jalal must put contract negotiations to the back of his mind as he fights it out for the number one jersey.

Cherries boss Lee Bradbury has told Jalal and Darryl Flahavan that it is down to them to earn the shirt during pre-season. Goalkeeper Jalal has one year left of his contract at Dean Court but talks have stalled recently. Bradbury told the Daily Echo: "We've tried our best to sort out a contract with him (Jalal) but haven't been able to. We've been trying for quite a while but can't reach an agreement, financially. We put the best deal we could to him. "He is employed by AFC Bournemouth and I know he won't get side-tracked because he is such a good professional." Meanwhile, Bradbury expressed his delight at the signing of Flahavan on a one-year deal from Portsmouth: "Signing Darryl shows we are serious about doing well this season. They are both going to want to play and I have told them the best keeper throughout pre-season will get the jersey."
