New recruit Arron Davies was tempted to join Northampton because of manager Gary Johnson's winning attitude.
Davies has worked with Johnsen twice before, at Yeovil and former club Peterborough, and said he did not think twice about dropping a division to be reunited with his old boss.
"I know Gary well, we have had a good working relationship before and it was an easy decision," the midfielder told Northampton Chronicle and Echo.
"He is ambitious, as am I, and I want to win things and try and play at as high a level as I can."
Davies, 27, is confident that, under Johnson, the Cobblers can get promoted in his first season in charge.
"He is relentless in wanting to win and wanting to improve players," added Davies. "He won't settle for second best and promotion will be the only thing he will talk about."
