Manager Gary Johnson has revealed Northampton want to sign Peterborough's transfer-listed midfielder Arron Davies.
The Cobblers have been linked with several other players, and Johnson is struggling to contain his excitement over what is likely to be a small squad.
Johnson told the Northampton Chronicle and Echo: "I know Arron very well, I took him to Yeovil from Southampton and then to Peterborough when I was there.
"He is a player that would interest me because he is a very good player and would be an excellent signing for this club. But there is a lot of business to be done first.
"I wrote down the team I'm planning to bring in on Thursday, and the subs, and I got very excited.
"It's going to be a fairly small squad but it's going to be a strong one."
