Striker Guillem Bauza has told Northampton manager Gary Johnson that he is ready to leave the club.
The 26-year-old had a meeting with the Cobblers boss on Friday when he informed him of his decision.
"After discussions between Guillem and myself on Friday, Guillem has told me who he will be signing for, and it is a club in a higher league," said Johnson.
"We wish him well for the future. He did well for us and we were good for him, and we thank him for his time with us and now we move on.
"We have plenty of targets in mind, and we are actively working hard on them. It is a very, very busy time with a lot happening and that is why it is important we set early deadlines and make decisions as soon as we can on players.
"If we wait we may miss out. Now we know what is happening with Guillem we move on."
