Burton Albion have received an offer for striker Shaun Harrad from Boxing Day opponents Northampton Town.
The 26-year-old striker, Albion's leading scorer with 10 goals in all competitions this season, is out of contract in the summer.
Talks over a new deal have stalled recently but Burton remain hopeful that they can persuade Harrad to stay.
"Northampton did make a bid, yes - and we have passed it on to Shaun's agent," Albion chairman Ben Robinson told the Derby Telegraph.
"We've been in discussions for some time about a new contract.
"I think Shaun wants to play at a higher level, which you can understand - but the manager (Paul Peschisolido) would prefer him to stay."
