Preston midfielder Darren Carter is training with Millwall ahead of a prospective loan move.
The 26-year-old has the chance to impress Kenny Jackett during training this week, and the Lions boss will decide whether he has shown enough to earn a deal.
Carter, formerly of Birmingham City and West Brom, is deemed surplus to requirements at Deepdale and North End manager Darren Ferguson is allowing him the chance to move to London.
He said: "He's spending the week with them and providing that goes well, the plan is to send him there for six months."
Carter joined Preston for £750,000 from West Brom three years ago but was transfer listed by Ferguson in May.
