Northampton boss Ian Sampson believes the club can cope with the loss of Adebayo Akinfenwa and has already started work on finding his replacement.
The striker, who scored 39 goals in 82 starts for the Cobblers, is a free agent after failing to sign a new contract before the deadline imposed by Sampson.
Sampson told Cobblers Player: "Players move on and it was a good offer for this level of football, but obviously Bayo decided to go and look elsewhere, but that's football.
"There's many teams that lose their best players and we have to move on and try and fill the gap."
The Cobblers chief was at least pleased to get a quick decision so he knew where he stood with his budget.
He added: "I think that was important and that's why we gave him and Andy (Holt) the deadline so we can move onto targets and we're working on them at the moment."
